Island is not ours

To all Datuk Wan Abdullah's Family.

I have a short notes to all my uncles and aunts.

When my escapism mood hit my mind....

I think about nature, fishing, swimming and my tok papak.....

of course...relate to it is Bumbon Island....

I’M SURE ALL OF YOU CAN STILL REMEMBER HOW GREAT MY GRANDPA'S STRATEGY ON OUR PROMISED ISLAND, PULAU BUMBON, WHICH IS NOW STANDS AS A SAD STORY. THE ISLAND IS ONE OF THE GREATEST AND SWEETEST MEMORIES LEFT BEHIND BECAUSE OF OUR 21ST CENTURY STATE OF MIND.

REMEMBER WHERE OUR FORMER PM, DR MAHATHIR AND UK’S FOREIGN MINISTERS REMARKED OUR ISLAND AS ONE OF MALAYSIA’S PARADISE.

FOR ME, HIS KNOWLEDGE, PRINCIPLES AND VIEWS ARE MORE OUTSTANDING THAN ANY PhD HOLDERS.

I MISS TOK PAPAK SO MUCH...

NOW…WHAT HAPPEN TO THAT ISLAND...???

MYOPIC MINDED WANT TO SELL THE ISLAND....

THEIR ARGUEMENT, " BAIK KITA JUAL, NANTI RUGI"...

ME, MYSELF AND I WAS WONDERING, "RUGI???"

MELAYU MUDAH LUPA TERUTAMA MELAYU YANG NAK JUAL PULAU BILA DAH DAPAT FREE FROM ANCESTORS....

YOURS TRULY,

WAN JAMIL'S GRANDSON,

ASHWAD ISMAIL

Pak ngah Min misses him too, without doubt the happiest time i am with tok papak is during our stay in p.bunbon,we had a challenging time building up the business, it was hard work all the way, building the chalet on our own with the late Ah Koi supervising us,Ah Koi is a first generation chinese immigrant,he is a carpentary graduate from a chinese vocational school, well, we worked till dark until we cannot see the nail we were hammering, during lunch break, me and tok bapak would sneek out for a short troll at nearby island for barracuda, fishes were aplenty then and the rapala worked wonders, without misses we would catch a few and our fish supply is constantly replenish.
Anyway fate on most occasion is unavoidable.Life comes in many form and rugi has different meaning to different people,to us it might be rugi to lost the island, but to other it is rugi not making money out of it and of course selling it without any modal is untung all the way and the easiest means. situation is just like umno when its time to fade away no matter how hard you try to save it,it will have to fade away, only memories will lingers on.
In reality there is no favourable solution to retain the island,i dont think we could refer this to ICJ,the only acceptable solution is that we keep our portion and the rest to be sold.

Dear Aswat

Spoke to Mak Besar this evening. Sometimes, when the feeling inside of me is cold and quiet, I need to talk to my sister or brothers. You know, we are just human. We need the support of each other especially family members to keep us spiritually strong. And that's how I discovered that you're now a blogger. Good to have your parent in Alor Setar.

We'll keep communicating. As time changes, the technology can bring us together. Surely we can express better in writting.

Uncle Bob and auntie Liza were here in Penang last week. We had dinner in my house. Brieftly, we spoke about Bumbon.

Express my opinion that, we should sacrifice and keep the island as a family property. Not to sell it. Never. Let it be there as heritage and pride of Wan Abdullah & Family. For what we have left is only this little paradise bought by the late Haji Wan Ismail in 1927at the price of nothing (I mean almost nothing if you compare RM24 in this millenium). Retained it and let do justice to our ancestors and our future generations, for this should be our contribution to them. After all, it is not the present generation that acquire it. We are all (only) the beneficiaries. Keep the land as "Tanah Kepunyaan Orang Melayu".

According to the late Tok Ata, Tok Wan Lah has refused to sell the land during his time, as his intentions was for us "anak cucu" to enjoy it, in which we did. Except for the less adventurous.

Notwithstanding, we shall let time decide on the fate of Bumbon.

I recalled an Italian proverb that says as follow:

The first generation acquire
The second generation preserve
The third generation squanders

Sound quite true...bersambung...second episode coming soon.

"Al Fatihah" to all our ancestors.
